I actually wouldn't have given this book a glance if my partner in crime didn't tell me about this book. My only fav Stroud's book is the first book of Barty trilogy and I have this belief that good writer only makes one masterpiece. His other books didn't entice me like that book, with its a lot of long footnotes and Barty's sarcastic mouth. I have long ignored any Stroud's books. Alas, two partners in crime of mine still loves him so every now and then I still hear about his books.

Nevertheless, old love never dies. Along with Lord of The Ring trilogy and Eragon, Stroud's book was one of few books I liked in my attempt to delve in to nerdy life when I was in junior high school. With Amel, my partner in crime, we laughed at whatever Barty said on that book. So of course, I don't take Amel's recc lightly.

I decided to read this out of boredom though. I was in no mood to read manga, to watch anything or read 1984 or one of books on my tbr list. They were all depressing and I wanted a good laugh. If Amel showed me the Indonesian edition with its creepily frightening cover, I would have passed this book! Nope. Nope. IT WAS WAY TOO SCARY AND CREEPY!! And then, never judge a book by its cover, because no creepy girl ghost riding rocking horse. It is still one creative cover (have seen it in a manga though) but very misleading. Haha.
