Wishful Wednesday #20

Eid Mubarak everyones, happy holiday too. Do you have wonderful or traffic jam inducing rage holiday? I spend my holiday peacefully at parents' home, meeting old friends, meeting partner in crime, trying to read book and playing osu!on my siblings' PC like a crazy.

I was trying to keep up with 100 reviews challenge then I remembered today was Wednesday. Before I close my laptop I may as well post WW for this week. What book I recently want?

The Whispering Skull by Jonathan Stroud

In the six months since Anthony, Lucy, and George survived a night in the most haunted house in England, Lockwood & Co. hasn't made much progress. Quill Kipps and his team of Fittes agents keep swooping in on Lockwood's investigations. Finally, in a fit of anger, Anthony challenges his rival to a contest: the next time the two agencies compete on a job, the losing side will have to admit defeat in the Times newspaper.
Things look up when a new client, Mr. Saunders, hires Lockwood & Co. to be present at the excavation of Edmund Bickerstaff, a Victorian doctor who reportedly tried to communicate with the dead. Saunders needs the coffin sealed with silver to prevent any supernatural trouble. All goes well-until George's curiosity attracts a horrible phantom.
Back home at Portland Row, Lockwood accuses George of making too many careless mistakes. Lucy is distracted by urgent whispers coming from the skull in the ghost jar. Then the team is summoned to DEPRAC headquarters. Kipps is there too, much to Lockwood's annoyance. Bickerstaff's coffin was raided and a strange glass object buried with the corpse has vanished. Inspector Barnes believes the relic to be highly dangerous, and he wants it found.
I have read the first book and it is wonderful. It's scary too and there a bit touch of sarcastic POV I always want from Stroud. The characters are so likable, I love George the most! I suspect The Skull George keeps like some kind of mute pet is a character like our beloved Bartimeous. It will be released next September. Can't wait!

Btw, don't you want to join WW? Go to Mbak Astrid's blog now, chop chop!

Interpreter of Maladies

Title: Interpreter of Maladies
Author: Jhumpa Lahiri
Published: 1999
Publisher: Mariner Book
Format: paperback, 198 pages.
Rating: T

A friend of mine from GRI Malang loves reading books adorned with prize, like Pulitzer and Bookman or whatever is it. She said she loved Jhumpa Lahiri. Mbak Dania, my friend, had a great taste in books that I wanted to peek at Lahiri's work aside from the short story "Brotherly Love" I got from bukukata.

I was a litle bit disappointing at first because the first story was so chick-lit-ish, "Is this a romance book?", as you know I shy away from romance. Then as the story unfold, I began to like how Lahiri created the setting and she did write beautifully.

Intrepeter of Maladies is that kind of book I keep reading despite not liking the characters the author has created. I failed to understand Twinkle with her knack to piss her husband for they were not Christian but Twinkle wanted to keep the blaring Christian stuffs left by previous owner. I failed to understand people who drove Boori Ma away after all she did for them. It was sad that the Bibi Haldar had to get raped to get cured. World is cruel place.

Simple Thinking About Blood Type

Judul: Simple Thinking About Blood Type
Penulis: Park Dong Seon
Genre: komik, humor
Setting: Korea (?)
Bahasa: Indonesia

Halaman: 262
Penerbit: Penerbit Haru

Apa jadinya kalau mereka disatukan?

Saya sering sekali menemukan adek saya menonton ulang Ketsuekigata-kun! berulang-ulang di rumah, dan ketika saya mengajak adek main ke Gramedia dan dia menemukan buku ini, dia minta dibelikan....padahal uang sudah habis, karena Gramedia masuk dalam urutan terakhir pilgrimage to mall ;w;

Killua: golongan darah B, maunya sendiri, kucing

Gon, well, kalian taulah golongan darah O seperti apa, saat itu golongan darah O jadi fav untuk jadi tokoh utama :v
Kurapika, misterius...misterius.

Leorio! Selalu khawatir ini itu, khas A banget~

Nah, ya kan? Betapa kagetnya ternyata Keitsuegatakun ternyata dari mangaka korea? Agak kaget.

Contohnya, misunderstoo blood type B. Rasanya jelek banget sifat-sifatnya :v

Wishful Wednesday #19

Hai, rasanya udah lama ya saya gak pos WW, selain karena lagi males nge-blog, saya juga tidak ada laptop mumpuni (LCD-nya sakit) plus netless di tempat tinggal yang baru ;w;

KAFKA ON THE SHORE BY HARUKI MURAKAMI

Anda tau kah? Saking realism-nya, saya gak paham baca Murakami, mungkin kalo saya baca versi hardcopy dan bukan bajakannya, saya bisa ngerti :v

The Top-Secret Diary of Celie Valentine

Title: The Top-Secret Diary of Celie Valentine
Author: Julie Sternberg
Publisher: Boyds Mills Press
Languange: English
Setting: USA
Rating: K
Genre: children, family
Pages: 152
Ten-year-old Celie has quite a few things on her mind -- fights with her sister Jo, secrets at school, an increasingly forgetful grandmother, and worst of all, a best friend who won't speak to her. How can a girl who hates change survive, when everything in her life is changing? By writing, of course! Celie's often comical and always heartfelt diary entries include notes, e-mails, homework assignments, and pages from her top-secret spy notebook.
I tend to read children book since I knew there were children books with non-Japanese-illustration-like existed and where to get them when I was in Junior High School. I don't know whether I like it because I read too many manga since I could read or just because I didn't have chance to read this kind of book when I was little. Haven't I told you I never read "Lima Sekawan"?
